PHEN Distance Education - space still available!
The Provincial Health Ethics Network (PHEN) would like to bring
your attention to the ninth offering of their distance education course
"Introduction to Bioethics", taking place January 19 - June 4, 2009.
This course provides an excellent introduction to health ethics issues
and is geared particularly towards people who are busy working in all
areas of health, whether in a health institution, health region, or as
part of a community organization. The course covers a wide range of
topics, including ethical decision-making, resource allocation, human
diversity, autonomy, virtue, end-of-life care, and faith based
perspectives.

Cape Breton Regional Ethics Committee Presentation
1:30 - 2:30 pm - "Ethical Considerations for Quality End of Life Care in Canada". Presented by Rosalie Starzomski, Clinical Ethicist and Nursing Professor. This session is being held at Cape Breton Regional Hospital and is being videoconferenced to other facilities. Check with your local telehealth coordinator.

Topic: "Who told you that? Health Information & Truthtelling". Presented by Drs. Christy Simpson and Marika Warren, Clinical Ethicists, Dalhousie Department of Bioethics. This session will be broadcast from the OE Smith Auditorium at the IWK Health Centre, 3:00 – 4:15 pm. Check with your local Telehealth Coordinator for room location in your region.

Pictou County Health Authority 3rd Annual Bioethics Day
The focus of the day will be "Understanding Advanced Directives - An Ethical Issue" to be held at the Aberdeen Professional Centre Auditorium in New Glasgow, NS. Key Note Address titled: “Use of Non-Invasive Ventilation and Moral Distress” to be presented by Dr. Marika Warren.

Annapolis Valley 3rd Annual Ethics Day Workshop
The focus of the workshop will be "Advanced Care Planning" to be held at the Festival Theatre in Wolfville. This workshop is open to all AVH staff, physicians and volunteers as well as any of our community partners. Registration information is contained within the brochure.
This year in conjunction with the annual workshop we will also be hosting a free public lecture titled: “Tough Times: Talking through End of Life Planning” to be presented by Dr. Christy Simpson and Dr. Marika Warren on Thursday, October 16th at 7:00 pm at the KC Irving Centre Auditorium, Acadia University. This event is open to everyone including AVH staff, physicians and volunteers.
